Energy Dispersion X-ray analyzer

The Ni3S2 constituent formed on the surface and scale formation was observed in all areas of the blade roots. The mechanism seemed to be more prevalent above the root pressure boundary than other areas of the blade root. Characterization of the scale was performed using a Scanning Electron Microscope equipped with an Energy Dispersion X-ray analyzer (EDX).

There are other advantages to the SEM, including ease of sample preparation, elemental analysis by energy-dispersive X-ray analyzer, and usually excellent specimen contrast. The light mieroscope is still important beeause an SEM costs 10-50 times the cost of an adequate light microscope. Secondly, there are many routine surface examinations easily performed by light optics that do not justify use of the SEM. 

The elemental profile distribution of both molybdenum and phosphorus, across the transversal section of the alumina extrudates. was obtained using the scanning electron microscopy technique (SEM). An ISI-60 apparatus equipped with an energy dispersive X-ray analyzer (Kevex S-7000) was used for these measurements. Catalyst extrudates were mounted on an epoxy slide and then polished before scanned under the electron beam.
