Resources energetics

The enormous amount of energetic resource found as asphaltene rich deposits justify the exploration of a bioaltemative for upgrading technologies, from which not even enzymatic cracking of asphaltene molecules should not be excluded.

The main goals of the plantwide control system are to ensure safe operation, the desired production rate and product quality, and to optimize the efficiency of using the material and energetic resources. 

The biofuels also raise concerns with respect to a possible shortage of agricultural resources needed for food. In return, it could be said that the biofuels aim to valorize primarily nonfood raw materials and nonused land resources. In addition, the biofuels should be considered as only a component, an important one, of the diversity of renewable energetic resources. 

Resource depletion is another impact of importance here. Resource depletion is presently accounted for as extraction of primary energy (for energetic resources) and/or according to the surplus energy concept (for both energetic and material resources). 

With the advent of quantum mechanics, quite early attempts were made to obtain methods to predict chemical reactivity quantitatively. This endeavor has now matured to a point where details of the geometric and energetic changes in the course of a reaction can be calculated to a high degree of accuracy, albeit still with quite some demand on computational resources. 

Sciubba (2003) proposed an approach called the extended exergy accounting (EEA), which calculates the real, resource-based value of a commodity product. The time span of EEA is the whole life of a plant. The EEA includes the exergetics flow sheets for non-energetic costs of labor and environmental remediation expenditures, and hence uses extended exergetic content. It also defines the criterion for an optimum process or operation (Sciubba, 2003).
