Energetic thermoplastic elastomer

Sperling, L.H. (1984) Characteristics of Novel Binder Based on Energetic Thermoplastic Elastomers. NTIS Report No. AD-A 1489913/9. [Pg.317]

Sanderson [2] prepared the energetic thermoplastic elastomer poly(3,3-bis (azidomethyl)-oxetane), (II), for use as a binder for a propellant, explosive, or gas generant for a supplemental restraint system in automobiles. Random block copolymers of poly(azidomethyloxirane) and poly(3,3-bis(azidomethyl)oxe-tane), (III), were also prepared by Sanderson [3] using toluene diisocyanate as the coupling agent. [Pg.219]

BAMO is perhaps the most prominent among the azido oxetanes class in terms of the number of polymers and copolymers reported so far. Due to its symmetrical azido groups, it assumes special significance as a hard block repeating unit in a thermoplastic elastomer. However, the homopolymer is solid and cannot be used directly for binder applications because of its crystal-tine nature. Also, poly(BAMO) shows relatively poor mechanical properties as a binder for solid rocket propellants [153]. Many copolymers of BAMO with non-energetic co-monomers tike tetrahydrofuran (THF) have been reported. The BAMO-THF copolymer is an excellent candidate for binder applications with its energetic BAMO content coupled with the THF block which affords... [Pg.263]

For the same crosslinking degree and effort amplitude, the samples similarly characterised, but in conditions of accelerated ageing present a decrease of durability with about 30-40%, due to the UV radiation and temperature contribution to the diminish of energetic barrier required for thermo-fluctuating scission of overstressed chemical bonds. These results once again confirm the common mechanism, the radicalic chained one, which governs all the destructive processes. Table 3.116 [917]. In the case of thermoplastic elastomer, Estane, in the same conditions, the durability decay... [Pg.179]
