Elsinoe leucospila

Structure and Enzymatic Degradation of Elsinan, a New a-D-Glucan Produced by Elsinoe leucospila... [Pg.197]

Elsinan is an extracellular a-D-glucan produced by a strain of Elsinoe leucospila from sucrose or other carbohydrates in an aerobic condition. Methylation studies. Smith degradation, partial acid hydrolysis and acetolysis established that elsinan is composed mainly of maltotriose residues and maltotetraose residues (minor) joined by a-(1 3)-linkages. [Pg.217]

A new a-D-glucan, elaborated by Elsinoe leucospila, has a structure based on the repeating sequence (8). ... [Pg.260]

The main degradation product (75-90%) resulting from the action of selected a-amylases on the a-D-glucan of Elsinoe leucospila has been identified as the trisaccharide O-a-D-glucopyranosyl-(l- 3)-0 -D-glucopyranosyl-(1 4)-D-glucose. This confirms previous reports that the polysaccharide consists chiefly of malto-triose units and a small proportion of maltotetraose units joined by (1 3)-a-D-... [Pg.308]

In relation to chemical taxonomy, other plant pathogenic fungi belonging to the Elsinoe species, such as E. fawetti, responsible for citrus scab, have also been found to produce extracellular a-D-glucans similar to the elsinan of E. leucospila. [Pg.207]
