Elongation of break

In 1978 Hiils (Mumcu et al ) described the properties of a block copolymer prepared by condensation of polytetramethylene ether glycol with laurin lactam and decane-1,10-dicarboxylic acid. The materials were introduced as XR3808 and X4006. The polyamide XR3808 is reported to have a specific gravity of 1.02, a yield stress of 24 MPa, a modulus of elasticity of 300 MPa and an elongation of break of 360%. The Swiss company Emser Werke also introduced similar... [Pg.526]

An improvement in terms of flexibility for PLA may widen its application as a biodegradable packaging and film material. The addition of plasticizers has been investigated lately in order to improve the fragility and increase the elongation of break or elasticity of PLA. Previous researchers have shown that addition of plasticizers such as polyethylene glycol (PEG), glucosemonoesters and partial fatty acid esters had successfully overcome the brittleness and widen PLA s application [2, 7, 8]. [Pg.365]

As seen earlier, the incorporation of 30% glass fiber into polyethylene terephthalate increases the tensile strength from 55 to 100 MPa (Table 3.1), while increasing the flexural modulus from 2.3 to 5-17.9 GPa and decreasing the elongation of break from 250% to 2.2% (Table 3.3). [Pg.58]

The corporation of glass fiber has little effect on the tensile strength of polyamide-imide from 185 to 195 MPa (Table 3.1) and the flexural modulus from 4.6 to 11.1 GPa (Table 3.2), while the elongation of break decreases from 12% to 5% (Table 3.4). [Pg.60]

In summary, only the CoA (Kraton G) significantly improved the tensile strength, and produced satisfactory elongation of break. [Pg.175]
