Electro-oculogram

A relationship exists between EEG patterns and the level of vigilance and consciousness. The states of wakefulness and sleep are characterised by three physiological correlates brain wave activity (electroencephalogram, EEG), eye movements (electro-oculogram, EOG) and muscle tone (electromyogram,... [Pg.106]

Sleep is typically measured and observed in sleep laboratories by electroencephalograms (EEGs), electro-oculograms (EOGs) of each eye, and electromyograms (EMGs) of the mentalis and submentalis muscles. This information in total is used to evaluate the character of sleep. [Pg.1322]

Sweating and diarrhoea were the only symptoms in a 44-year-old male who took 50 tablets of clonidine (100 ). Studies with albino rats have pointed to a possible connection between clonidine use and retina degeneration. Extensive visual tests in 38 patients with hypertension of whom 19 received clonidine failed to show any group difference for visual symptoms, fundus changes, visual fields photostress tests, dark adaptation and colour vision. Electro-oculograms were, however, more often abnormal in the clonidine group (101 ). [Pg.169]
