Electrical power interruption

Another environmental effect that should not be overlooked is the amount of airflow through the fan. To remain at an appropriate operating temperature the fan requires sufficient airflow to remove fan motor heat. Fan motor capacitor failure will cause the motor to operate at a lower speed and efficiency, especially after the motor has been shut off by the occupant or electrical power interruption. Operating the fan in either of these modes will lead to higher radon levels in the living space and invites early fan failure. [Pg.1261]

Electrical power interruption to the control rod drive mechanism operating coils must release the control rod drive mechanism drive rod assembly, thereby allowing ihe rod cluster assembly to fall under gravity to its fully inserted position, with a trip delay time of less than or equal to 150 milliseconds. [Pg.185]

Suppose that tlie failure of either a generator or a switch will cause interruption of electrical power to a certain facility. If the probability of a generator failure is 0.02, tlie probability of switch failure is 0.01, and tlie probability of both failing is 0.0002, what is the probability of power interruption ... [Pg.563]

The abundance of incident solar energy, particularly in large desert regions with few interruptions due to cloud cover, lends to the appeal of solar heat engines. Electrical power produced via thermal conversion of solar energy by means of a conventional Rankine cycle is technically achievable. [Pg.67]

The drawback of an incremental encoder is that the count can be corrupted by power interruption or electrical noise. Then, in order to restart the system, it needs to be homed to re-establish the zero count position. A pictorial representation of an incremental rotary optical encoder is shown in Figure 3.157. [Pg.491]

Unattended operations must be planned with automatic safety switches that prevent serious damage (fire, flooding, explosion) in case of accidental equipment failure or interruption of utility services such as electricity, water, or gas supplies. Of special concern are the constant flow of cooling water and the operation of high-temperature baths. In the case of water flow, a device should be installed in the water line to (1) automatically regulate the water pressure (so as to avoid surges that might disconnect or rupture a water hose), and (2) automatically turn off electrical connections and water-supply valves in case of a total loss of water supply. In the case of hot thermostat baths or ovens, a sensor/control device should be installed that automatically turns off the electrical power to all heaters if the temperature exceeds some preset upper limit. [Pg.698]

Sources of Electrical Power. Since the requirements of processes and facilities of the MTR project vary as to the permissible duration of interruptions in electrical power, it has been necessary to provide other sources of electrical power in addition to the normal power from the public utilities. These other sources of electrical power have been made locally available within the site for continuous and eme rgency use. [Pg.384]
