Electrical limit switch design

Recommendation 6. A redesign of the layout is required to ensure appropriate access to the electrical service panel. If possible, it should be located adjacent to the operator console area to enable the operator to easily access the electrical circuits in the event of an emergency. If total relocation of the service panel from one side of the room to another is not possible or feasible because of building limitations, room design, or other factors, then the operator s console should be provided with a deadman switch that will deenergize all electrical power to the vapor degreasing system, including the crane. This relatively simple solution will provide the operator more control over the risk associated with critical electrical systems and subsystems. [Pg.80]

Storerooms Special storerooms confine flammable liquids. NFPA has detailed design standards for these storerooms. Fire codes limit the quantities and sizes of containers stored indoors. Some design features for flammable storerooms are explosion-proof switches and electrical fixmres, ventilation, self-closing doors with fusible links, static electricity grounding systems, special signage, raised door sUl, and special floor contours. [Pg.235]

Thermal and overspeed cutout devices are coimnonly used to protect electrical equipment (and thus the operator). A thermal cutout is simply a temperature-sensitive switch with a preset limit designed to interrupt power when the temperature exceeds a certain value. As its name implies, an overspeed switch operates when it senses that a motor or other device is operating at too fast a speed. Obviously, excessive speed may create dangerous conditions and indicate failure of equipment. The overspeed switch operates to shut down an overspeeding device by interrupting power to it. [Pg.392]
