Elaboration score

Instead of a more elaborate score, Brewster et al. (1998) reduced the staging originating from the Mankin grades to a more simplified score, which still leads to statistically significant differences between the treatment groups. 

There are two possible elaboration scores. First, the items may be scored 1 (correct) or 0 (incorrect), and the elaboration score is the combined number of items for which all components are mapped correctly in these two exercises. The items may also be... 

We note that an elaborate set of three-body spectral moments of various rotovibrational bands was compiled elsewhere [342], the values of which are generally much greater than the data listed in Table 3.7. We point out that these more recent data were obtained at low gas densities, typically from 10 to 50 amagats. They are, therefore, barely affected by three-body interactions pressure variation of the spectral moments Mn/g2 amounted typically to just one or two percent. While measurements at small densities are desirable to minimize interference by four-body effects, reliable data of this kind must be based on measurable effects that exceed significantly the experimental uncertainties (typically ten percent). On that score, the more recent data are deficient, in our judgement. 

The sensor responses were collected and elaborated by PCA performed on scaled data to achieve a partial visualisation of the set in a reduced dimension. The two first principal components represented 98% of the total variance and their score plot (Fig. 31.1) allowed a separation of the samples according to the storage conditions. Samples were distributed along PCI and PC2 according to the storage time and storage temperature, respectively. 

In contrast, S3 looks relatively strong. Her initial identification score is low, but she was quite successful on the identifications combined with planning, suggesting that she has overcome by herself any identification difficulties. We might want to keep in mind that S3 was somewhat weak on the planning-elaboration exercises and watch her future development in this area. Most likely, we would suggest that she continue on with new instructional material.
