Eighth notes

The eighth element, starting from a given one, is a kind of repetition of the first, like the eighth note of an octave in music. 

In music, beats are divided into measures. For example, in standard time, there are 4 beats per measure and a quarter note gets 1 beat. Explore whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes, sixteenth notes. Figure 6.1 John Newlands noticed that the properties of elements repeated every eighth element, in the same way musical notes repeat every eighth note and form octaves. 

Newlands called this the law of octaves (there are seven notes to an octave in music, the eighth note being almost a duplicate of the first note and beginning a new octave). Unfortunately, while some of the rows in his table did contain similar elements, other rows contained widely dissimilar elements. The first result in Table 2.2 is the value found directly. The next set of three results shows that recovery of fluoride after deliberate addition to the spiked samples is excellent. The fifth result is that obtained from an acidified sample. The sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth sets of data show that the expected fluoride concentration is still obtained after deliberate addition of aluminium or iron in the form of their alums. Thus, the activity increases linearly with time. In general, we note that we achieve one-half the saturation activity after an irradiation of one half-life, three-fourths of the saturation activity after irradiating two half-lives, seven-eighths of the saturation activity after irradiating three half-lives, and so forth. Here the chemical formula is written CH2, which is one-eighth of a typical gasoline molecule (CgHi6). The reaction is catalyzed by a number of metal-based catalysts including iron, cobalt, and nickel.
