Eighth notes

The eighth element, starting from a given one, is a kind of repetition of the first, like the eighth note of an octave in music. [Pg.85]

In music, beats are divided into measures. For example, in standard time, there are 4 beats per measure and a quarter note gets 1 beat. Explore whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes, sixteenth notes. Can you make sure that each measure has the right number of beats If you already play an instrument, try explaining these different notes to someone new to learning music theory. [Pg.156]

Figure 6.1 John Newlands noticed that the properties of elements repeated every eighth element, in the same way musical notes repeat every eighth note and form octaves. [Pg.175]

Newlands called this the law of octaves (there are seven notes to an octave in music, the eighth note being almost a duplicate of the first note and beginning a new octave). Unfortunately, while some of the rows in his table did contain similar elements, other rows contained widely dissimilar elements. It was felt by other chemists that what Newlands was demonstrating was coincidence rather than some-... [Pg.129]

The code fragment is now finished after the eighth clock cycle. Note that there are stiU three clock cycles during which there are idle stages in the multiplication pipeline. The compiler would look for other statements in the code that could be overlapped with those already in process. [Pg.88]

The number stands for the number of methanols associating onto TiaOn, note that association reactions terminate at the eighth step, (b) Under similar conditions, the clustering of pyridine truncates at n = 4. The first result in Table 2.2 is the value found directly. The next set of three results shows that recovery of fluoride after deliberate addition to the spiked samples is excellent. The fifth result is that obtained from an acidified sample. The sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth sets of data show that the expected fluoride concentration is still obtained after deliberate addition of aluminium or iron in the form of their alums. Aluminium (III) and iron (III) form very strong fluoride complexes [70] and, provided that sufficient time is allowed for equilibration (as noted by Baumann [64] for very low fluoride concentrations), total flu-... [Pg.73]

See, e.g., Trop v Dulles, 356 U.S. 86,95 (1958) [ even a clear legislative classification of a statute as nonpenal would not alter the fundamental nature of a plainly penal statute .] Knecht v Gillman, 488 F.2d 1136,1139-40 (8th Cir. 1973) [noting that the mere characterization of an act as treatment does not insulate it from eighth amendment scrutiny and that neither the label which a State places on its own conduct, nor even the legitimacy of its motivation, can avoid the applicability of the Federal Constitution ]. [Pg.49]

At the time of his sixty-eighth birthday, Gahn received a novel congratulatory note from Berzelius, which read "From Herr Assessor s last letter I was happy to find new support for the doctrine of definite proportions. Heir Assessor was 68 on August 19 the following day (the 20th) I became 34 now 34X2=68, from whence it follows that Herr Assessor is equal to a multiple of me by two. .." (56). [Pg.172]

The items in this list do not match the extant notes on prognostications or treatises on geomancy that Forman had written by 1591, though some notes on the eighth sphere probably date from this period. 2 Fifteen years later he drafted a... [Pg.45]

Thus, the activity increases linearly with time. In general, we note that we achieve one-half the saturation activity after an irradiation of one half-life, three-fourths of the saturation activity after irradiating two half-lives, seven-eighths of the saturation activity after irradiating three half-lives, and so forth. Thus, it does not pay to make the irradiation longer than one to two half-lives. (This effect can be used to tune the length of the irradiation to maximize the yield of the product of interest relative to the other reaction products.)... [Pg.258]

Notes At one time this was a very popular developing agent. In 1931 the Eighth International Congress of Photography adopted as a standard developer for scientific sensitometric work the following formula ... [Pg.184]

Here the chemical formula is written CH2, which is one-eighth of a typical gasoline molecule (CgHi6). The reaction is catalyzed by a number of metal-based catalysts including iron, cobalt, and nickel. The reactors in which the synthesis takes place operate within a temperature range of 225 to 365°C and at pressures from 0.5 to 4 MPa. It should also be noted that the Fischer-Tropsch reactions produce a wide spectrum of oxygenated compounds such as alcohols. [Pg.526]
