Early and current efforts originating in the United States for standardization of chemical nomenclature on both a national and international level are reviewed. Committees sponsored by the National Research Council, which is the official organization for dealing with the IUPAC, and ACS committees correlate work to achieve consistency. Nomenclature information is published in ACS periodicals and in eighteen pamphlets which are available from Chemical Abstracts. [Pg.55]
