Eight-harness satin weave

An eight-harness satin weave is a fabric that has a seven by one weave pattern in which a filling thread floats over seven warp threads and then under one. Like the crowfoot wave, it looks different on one side than on the other. This weave is more pliable than any of the other weaves and is especially adaptable to forming around compound curves. [Pg.598]

Satin weave The warp and weft threads are crossed in a programmed order and frequency to obtain a flat appearance. As a result, one side of the fabric has more warp threads, while the back appears to consist mainly of weft threads. The higher the satin number (7 satin, 8 sarin), the higher the count of warp and weft threads. Sarin weaves allow production of fabrics with high mass per unit of surface area, and good drapability over molds. Different sarin patterns are used. See Eight-harness satin and four-harness satin. [Pg.108]

Woven carbon fibers are usually biaxial structures, woven at 0° eind 90° (warp and fill) in three basic patterns plain, satin, and twill. The highest frequency of yarn interlacing is found in the plain weave, followed by the twill and the satin weave. In the satin weave, the warp ends are woven overfour fill yarns and under one (five-harness satin) or over seven and under one (eight-harness satin). The property translation efficiency is the highest in satin weave, followed by twill and plain weave. Fig. 9.2 shows the plain and twill weaves. ... [Pg.202]
