Prospects in the United States for deploying breeders on a large scale were bright when it was beHeved that rich uranium ore would be quickly exhausted as use of nuclear power expanded. Chlorofonn is too non-polar to dissolve the phenolic compounds under study, but it dissolves many of the monoterpenes, at least to some extent. Because the solubility of some monoterpenes into chloroform was low, different solvent/ solid ratios were tested. These were 50,20,10 and 5 1/kg of dry phloem. The extracts were bright yellow and the strongest colour was with the smallest solvent/solid ratio (51/kg). The colour of the solvent indicated that the solubility of the extractable compounds was not restricting the reaction even with the smallest solvent volume. The taste of the dry samples was evaluated by comparing them to the original phloem sample. The results showed that the mildest taste was in the phloem extracted with a solvent/solid ratio of 50 1/kg and 20 1/kg also had some effect on the taste. The taste of the chloroform-extracted phloem was stabile and it was the same after a week. [Pg.284]

To examine the cavitational effect of ultrasound on bright-red complex of aluminon adsorbed on Al(OH)3, in our experiments, 25 ml of 0.005 M aluminium sulphate was treated with 5 ml of 1% aluminon (triammonium aurine-tricarboxylate). This adsorption complex was sonicated for 10, 20 and 30 min, while the control sample was agitated for the same duration with a magnetic stirrer. The turbidity in sonicated sample increased, as time of sonication increased compared to the unsonicated condition (Table 9.18 and Fig. 9.4). In sonicated sample, the colour of the adsorption complex was dark compared to the control sample and the settlement of the adsorption complex was also slower due to the smaller size particle of the complex. [Pg.254]

Also, the influence of aluminum sulfate, animal glue, and an extract of horse-chestnut nuts on zinc electrowiiming from a weak acidic sulfate electrolyte prepared from an industrial waste product was investigated [401]. The use of additives mixture has a beneficial effect on zinc electrowinning and results in smooth, slightly bright zinc deposits. [Pg.752]
