Glucose, glycerol, sucrose, starch, acetate, malate and lactate were examined for the effect of carbon sources on the hydrogen production and the effects of light intensity were also examined under the different irradiances, such as 0, 3, 7, 15, 30, 50 and 110 klux/m2, by adjusting the distance between the light source and the samples of Rb. sphaeriodes KD 131 cultures. [Pg.47]

The convenient triggering of selective reactions by light and the regulatory effects of light intensity variations are crucial benefits of the photochemical approach toward biomimetic model compounds. These two important aspects of biological systems, which are otherwise hardly achieved in synthetic molecular devices, will be briefly discussed in the following sections. [Pg.257]

Several factors affect the salt sensitivity of plants. We first evaluated the effect of light intensity on the salt-stress. Figure 2 clearly showed that tobacco seedlings were more severely affected by salt stress under high light intensity both on the basis of chlorophyll content and fresh wei t increase. This result indicated that light, probably photosynthetic process, would be involved in the salt-stress. To characterize the salt-stress mechanism, we examine the effect of salt on the photosynthetic activities of isolated thylakoid membranes. Previously, we reported that the presence of salt in assay inhibited the photosystem II activity of tobacco thylakoid membranes but not photosystem I activities (Murota et al., 1994). Then, we further examined the effect of salt on the irreversible photodamage of thylakoid membrane activity. [Pg.251]

Light Intensity Effect. The effect of light intensity upon fhe polymerization rate at peak is displayed by three series of runs (.cf. Table IV). The series differ slightly In initial TR-14 concentration and temperature. Figure4 presents these data as log (rate at peak) vs. log (intensity). The rates plotted have been converted to rates at C = 0.0100 and T=313°K (40°C) by using R j OO = rC X (C/.01)0-35 X e+3l6(T"l-313-I). Considering the 30-... [Pg.99]
