Earth models of intermediate complexity

Fig. 1 Global mean surface temperature evolution during the last century (observed) and projected for the next century. Bars on the right show the possible range of temperature increases from different AOGCM, and also from Simple Climate Models (SCM) and Earth Models of Intermediate Complexity (EMIC). The fourth type of models include zonal mean seasonal climate models coupled to the simple Weertman-type ice sheet model, as well as earth models of intermediate complexity (EMICs) coupled to a dynamic ice sheet. These models give a more realistic representation of the climate as compared with the simpler models. [Pg.441]

These estimates are assessed from a hierarchy of models that encompass a simple climate model, several Earth Models of Intermediate Complexity (EMICs) and a large number of Atmosphere Ocean Global Circulation Models (AOGCMs). Excludes future rapid dynamic changes in ice flow. [Pg.1003]
