Computational accuracy can be dramatically improved by dynamically adding elements where they minimize the error. For example, more elements ean be added in the neighborhood of a strong gradient in the velocity to help resolve shocks and vortex sheets. Elements may be removed from regions of smooth flow to minimize the computational cost without degrading the overall accuracy. The concept is shown in Fig. 9.6 where a finer mesh overlays the original mesh. This mesh refinement can be carried out to as many levels as necessary [15], [16], [17]. [Pg.329]

Because the cohesive energy of the fullerene Cyo is —7.29 eV/atom and that of the graphite sheet is —7.44 eV/atom, the toroidal forms (except torus C192) are energetically stable (see Fig. 5). Finite temperature molecular-dynamics simulations show that all tori (except torus Cm2) are thermodynamically stable. [Pg.79]

Good semi-quantitative agreements are found in diffraction patterns and proposed models obtained by molecular-dynamics[14], because the results of the ex-periments[31-34] are consistent with the atomic models proposed by us[14]. However, in the present state of high-resolution electron microscopy, taking into account, moreover, the number of sheets and the complicated geometry of the helix, it seems unlikely to directly visualize the pentagon-hexagon pairs. [Pg.84]

A process information sheet (PIS) should be developed for each machine-train and production process that is to be included in a predictive-maintenance program. These data sheets should include all process variables that affect the dynamics and vibration profiles of the monitored components. [Pg.714]

The amount of fresh catalyst added is usually a balance between catalyst cost and desired activity. Most refiners monitor the MAT data from the catalyst vendor s equilibrium data sheet to adjust the fresh catalyst addition rate. It should be noted that MAT numbers are based on a fixed-bed reactor system and, therefore, do not truly reflect the dynamics of an FCC unit. A catalyst with a high MAT number may or may not produce the desired yields. An alternate method of measuring catalyst performance is dynamic activity. Dynamic activity is calculated as shown below ... [Pg.111]

The specimen was prepared by the following method. After mixing HAF carbon black (50 phr) with natural rubber (NR) in a laboratory mixer, carbon gel was extracted from unvulcanized mixture as an insoluble material for toluene for 48 h at room temperamre and dried in a vacuum oven for 24 h at 70°C. We made the specimen as a thin sheet of the carbon gel (including carbon black) by pressing the extracted carbon gel at 90°C. The cured specimen was given by adding sulfur (1.5 phr) to the unvulcanized mixture and vulcanized for 30 min at 145°C. The dynamic viscoelastic measurement was performed with Rheometer under the condition of 0.1% strain and 15 Hz over temperatures. [Pg.527]
