Dynamic Mechanical Analysis, tensile strength

The authors have characterized the graft polymer by solvent extraction, transmission electron microscopy, dynamic mechanical analysis, mechanical testing (including measurement of tensile, tear, and impact strength), and morphology by SEM. The reaction scheme is given in Figure 11.25. [Pg.344]

The main experimental methodology used is to directly characterize the tensile properties of CNTs/polymer composites by conventional pull tests (e.g. with Instron tensile testers). Similarly, dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and thermal mechanical analysis (TMA) were also applied to investigate the tensile strength and tensile modulus. With these tensile tests, the ultimate tensile strength, tensile modulus and elongation to break of composites can be determined from the tensile strain-stress curve. [Pg.395]

Mechanical property characterization involves measurement of fiacture energy, stress intensity, tensile strength and modulus, and tan. Tan (9) can be defined as the ratio of the loss modulus, E", to the in-phase or storage modulus, E. Tan = E7E. Values for tan obtained from dynamic mechanical analysis can be related to epoxy structure. [Pg.491]

The EB treatment of the GTR containing LDPE and EVA matrix blends showed significant benefits. The 200 kGy EB absorbed dose (in air) resulted in a better tensile strength and increased elongation at break, without changing the tensile modulus, which provides more rubber-Uke properties [142]. The modest change in hardness proves the cross-linking effect caused by the EB treatment in all cases. The dynamic mechanical analysis confirmed the compatibilization effect of EVA and... [Pg.137]

Crystallinity of PLA has a strong impact on its mechanical properties. Suryanegara et al. have prepared PLA/MFC nanocomposites in both fully amorphous and crystallized states. The tensile modulus and strength of pristine PLA were improved with an increase of MFC content in both amorphous and crystallized states. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) has been used to study the effect of MFC reinforcement on the thermomechanical properties of PLA in both states and the results are shown in Figure 9.5. In the amorphous state, the storage modulus of pristine PLA below Tg is almost constant at around 3 GPa. Above Tg, the modulus drops to 4 MPa at 80 °C, and then increases to 200 MPa at 100 °C owing to the cold... [Pg.233]

However, the overall crystallinity and melting temperature decreased with increasing filler content. Tensile and dynamic mechanical analysis measurements indicated that expanded graphite was a better hller than untreated graphite. The overall improvement in mechanical properties was not great, but the mechanical strength and stiffness of high-density polyethylene were improved by the addition of the fillers. [Pg.74]
