The rotary drilling method works like a carpenter s drill boring through wood [1]. The bit on a rotary drill is attached to the end of a series of connected pipes called the drill pipe. The drill pipe is rotated by a turntable on the floor of the derrick. The pipe is lowered into the ground. As the pipe turns, the bit bores through layers of soil and rock. The drilling crew attaches additional lengths of pipe as the hole becomes deeper. 

In 1996, a field demonstration of horizontal recirculation wells was conducted at the X-701B site of the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Piketon, Ohio. Using directional drilling methods, two horizontal wells 234 ft long were installed to a depth of 32 ft. Design and construction costs were estimated to be 1.43 million (D188709, p. 16). 

Hardness is one of fundamental identifying characteristics in mineralogy, it is also the determinant of the working and technical possibilities of natural rocks used as lining. There are three jet grouting systems in common use. These are the single jet or monofluid system, the two fluid, and the three fluid systems. All systems require the placement of the jet pipe to the bottom of the depth to be treated. This is done using conventional drilling methods appropriate for the soil being treated. Depths of 150 feet have been successfully treated, and greater depths are possible under certain conditions. Any soil in which the jet pipe can be placed can be successfully treated. Adverse condition include soil deposits which contain large amounts of boulders.
