Double-stranded PANI

For marine applications, pH-stable EAPs have been investigated. Double-stranded PANI has been coated onto A1 alloys (458) immersion tests in simulated seawater showed improved corrosion resistance as compared to control samples (epoxy coating) (459). Recently, poly(bis-dialkylamino)phenylene vinylene) (BAM-PPV) was shown to adhere to A1 alloy in an immersion test using simulated seawater (pH 8) to retard corrosion (460,461). Quantitative evidence was obtained to show corrosion inhibition as compared to noncoated A1 alloys. [Pg.2409]

PANI nanowires are ID nanostructures which are very interesting from the nanotechnology point of view, due to their potential use in sensors and nanoscale electronic devices. DNA can be considered as an anionic polyelectrolyte that can behave as a template for PANI enzymatic polymerization in solution [20]. Double stranded DNA can be attached to aminated surfaces by electrostatic self assembly, providing a linear template for further aniline electrostatic assembly. By using this method followed by enzymatic polymerization of the assembled aniline, Ma et al. [69] and Nickels et al. [70] showed that stretched DNA molecules were able to template the enzymatic synthesis of PANI nanowires, according to the mechanism showed in Figure 8.7. [Pg.201]

CP nanocomposites with DNA have been fabricated via several approaches [ 116-122]. He and co-workers demonstrated the fabrication of PANI nanowires using DNA as templates on thermally oxidized Si surfaces using a horseradish peroxidase (HRP) enzymatic polymerization approach [116]. Typical synthetic procedures involve three steps. First, the molecular combining method is used to fabricate double-stranded DNA immobilized... [Pg.700]
