Double eddy

Superimposed on the double spiral, there may be a double eddy [Van Tongeran, Mech. Eflg., 57, 753 (1935) and Wellmann, Feuer-ungstechnik, 26, 137 (193 ] similar to that encountered in pipe coils. Measurements on cyclones of the type shown in Fig. 17-36 indicate, however, that such double-eddy velocities are small compared with the spiral velocity (Shepherd and Lapple, op. cit.). Recent analyses of flow patterns can be found in Hoffman et al.. Powder Tech., 70, 83... [Pg.1585]

Pressure drop in helical coils is dependent on whether the flow is laminar or turbulent. Typically flows are laminar at low fluid velocities and turbulent at high fluid velocities. In cuived pipes and coils a secondary circulation takes plac e called the double eddy or Dean Effect. VVliile this circulation increases the friction loss, it also tends to stabilize laminar flow, thus increasing the critical Reynolds number. [Pg.336]

This correction function was calculated for different kinds of excitation coils, like circular coils without ferrite core, spiral coils, double-D coils and a sheet inducer. For this purpose the eddy current density was determined for frequencies between 10 and 1000 Hz and for depths between 0 and 30 mm. [Pg.256]

We recall from our earlier discussion of chaos in one-dimensional continuous systems (see section 4.1) that period-doubling is not the only mechanism by which chaos can be generated. Another frequently occurring route to chaos is intermittency. But while intermittency in low dimensional dynamical systems appears to be constrained to purely temporal behavior [pomeau80], CMLs exhibit a spatio-temporal intermittency in which laminar eddies are intermixed with turbulent regions in a complex pattern in space-time. [Pg.397]

Further, an interesting question is how the kinetic energy of turbulence will be distributed according to various eddies/frequencies. Such a distribution of the energy among the eddies/frequencies is usually termed the energy spectrum. Our focus is now on the double correlation in the Karman-Howarth equation, and finally, the dynamic equation for the energy spectrum that is obtained by the Fourier transform of the double correlation is derived as... [Pg.98]

The addition of a singlet nitrene to a double bond is supposed to occur concert-eddy, while the triplet nitrene is supposed to add in two discrete steps via a 1.3-di-radical intermediate. The rate of ring closure of the diradical is supposed to be smaller than that for the rotation around the C—C-bond, therefore the stereochemistry of the olefin will be lost. [Pg.106]

Why do they construct the bed so that one dimension is double the other Why in eddying water does everything end up getting carried into the middle ... [Pg.51]

In the CEC bed, the linear flow velocity of the EOF through channels of different diameters will be independent of the channel diameter, provided the channel is wide enough to avoid double-layer overlap (under typical experimental conditions the critical channel diameter is 0.1 pm). This significantly reduces (usually by a factor of 2-5 times) the A term in the van Deemter equation, also referred to as Eddy diffusion , and is primarily responsible for the significantly higher separation efficiencies achieved on a capillary column operated in the CEC mode compared to the same column operated in LC mode (pressure-driven). [Pg.339]
