Doped conjugated polymers conductivity

Table 2 shows the present state-of-the-art for the electrical conductivity of doped conjugated polymers. The magnitude of the electrical conductivity in polymers is a complex property determined by many stmctural aspects of the system. These include main-chain stmcture and TT-ovedap, molecular... [Pg.42]

When the relatively low conductivity of DNA was acknowledged, there were suggestions that DNA be doped to increase its conductivity. It is immediately apparent that the methods used for doping conjugated polymers, which led... [Pg.96]

Properties of representative conducting polymers. Doped conjugated polymers have generated substantial interest in view of possible applications such as lightweight batteries, antistatic equipment, and microelectronics to speculative concepts such as molecular electronic devices.37-38 These polymers include doped polyacetylene, polyaniline, polypyrrole, and other polyheterocycles (Figure 5). While the conduction mechanism of metals and inorganic semiconductors is well understood and utilized in microelectronics, this is not true to the same... [Pg.300]

Contrary to inorganic crystalline semiconductors, where charge is transported in general by electrons in the conduction band and holes in the valence band, in doped conjugated polymers charged solitons, polarons, and bipolarons act as charge carriers. These quasi-particles are the direct consequence of the strong electron-phonon interaction present in these quasi-one-dimensional polymers. [Pg.575]
