There are two types of cell division, mitosis and meiosis. Mitosis is the division of the cells that produces two genetically identical daughter cells. It is the process by which new cells are produced for growth or for replacement of lost or damaged cells. Meiosis is the division of cells that is essential for sexual reproduction.
