Diuril - Chlorothiazide

Diuril chlorothiazide, divalproex sodium valproic acid, divaplon [inn] (RU 32698) is a methylimidazopyrimidine derivative, a BENZODIAZEPINE binding-site inverse agonist. [Pg.103]

Some drugs, such as the two-substituted thiodiazole and acetazolamide (Diamox), increase serum uric acid by stimulating uric acid synthesis (K9). Others, such as chlorothiazide (Diuril), increase uric acid retention by decreasing uric acid excretion (K9). Hydrochlorothiazide inhibits tubular secretion and has been shown to increase pretreatment mean uric acid values from 6.5 mg/100 ml to 10.3 mg/100 ml by the third treatment day. In a patient with gout, the level increased from 8 mg/100 ml to 12 mg/100 ml (H6). In a single case a paradoxical hypouricemia occurred (H6). [Pg.21]

Thiazide diuretics such as chlorothiazide (Diuril) and hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) work by blocking the action of aldosterone, a hormone that promotes sodium reabsorption by the kidneys. They are potassium-deplet-... [Pg.172]

Often, diuretics are used in combination with other drugs to relieve hypertension. Types of diuretics used to treat hypertension include thiazides, such as chlorothiazide (Diuril) and hydrochlorothiazide (Esidrex) potassium-sparing diuretics, such as spironolactone (Aldac-tone) and loop diuretics, such as furosemide (Lasix). [Pg.174]

Chlorthalidone in a dose of 50 to 100 mg daily is indicated in edema, and a dose of 25 mg/day is used in hypertension. The thiazide diuretics, also called sulfonamide or benzothi-adiazide diuretics, vary in their actions. For instance, the potency of hydrochlorothiazide (Hydro-Diuril and Esidrix) is ten times greater than that of chlorothiazide (Diuril), but the two drugs have equal efficacy. The duration of action of hydrochlorothiazide, which is 6 to 12 hours, is equal to that of chlorothiazide. On the other hand, chlorthalidone has a duration of action lasting 48 hours. Some thiazide... [Pg.152]
