Dispersing Doors

Enclosure roof doors that are directly susceptible to fume drafts must be positioned beneath the roof overlapping the opening. Rising fume will then strike, deflect, and disperse within the enclosure, instead of leaking through door clearances. The rest of the roof construction must be tightly sealed. 

Studies of reversed micelles dispersed in supercritical fluids have shown their ability to solubihze hydrophihc substances, including biomolecules and dyes, opening the door to many new applications [60,61]. In particular, solutions of reversed micelles in liquid and supercritical carbon dioxide have been suggested as novel media for processes generating a minimum amount of waste and with a low energy requirement [62]. 

Safer plants are designed so that those incidents, which do occur, do not produce knock-on or domino effects. For example safer plants are provided with fire breaks between sections to restrict the spread of fire, or if flammable materials are handled, the plant is built out-of-door so that leaks can be dispersed by natural ventilation. 

Locating equipment that is liable to leak out-of-doors so that leaks of flammable gases and vapors are dispersed by natural ventilation. Indoors a few tens of kilograms are sufficient for an explosion that can destroy the building. Outdoors a few tons are necessary for serious damage. A roof over a piece of equipment, such as a compressor, is acceptable, but walls should be avoided. If leaks of toxic gases are liable to occur, it may be safer to locate the plant indoors, unless leaks will disperse before they reach members of the public or employees on other units. 

Then I got disheartened and sat in my father s chair. His smell hardly lingered at all now—just the slightest hint of tobacco. The hearth was empty, and the doors to the laboratory were wide open so that I could watch the still. Everything was bathed in honey light dispersed by millions of dust particles raised from the books. I had a dazed sense of the laboratory being out of reach, like a looking-glass world. 

The bubble had been broken. Tim got up and went to the kitchen and left the door open. A bright shaft of light streamed into the room. The depressing fog of incipient religious bigotry was dispersed. The tendency to over-idealize a potential leader had been clearly revealed and uprooted, at least for that group and that time. 

However, in view of the detailed knowledge about the constitution of adsorbed monomolecular films (their structure and the successful application of van der Waals dispersion forces to account for their properties), it seems reasonable to require that the pressure-dependent shear strength concept be treated with equivalent detail and precision. Otherwise the concept is essentially data-fitting and leaves the door open for another empirical explanation which is strongly supported by observation namely, that in actual experimentation there are enough defects in the adsorbed film to permit significant contributions to the overall observed friction from microscopic regions not protected by the film.
