Disilver fluoride (silver subfluoride ) has been prepared by the cathodic reduction of aqueous silver(I) fluoride solutions at low current densities1 and by the reaction of elemental silver with silver(I) fluoride at tem-... [Pg.18]

Disilver fluoride is a bronze-colored compound with a greenish cast when observed in bulk. It is an excellent electrical conductor. Crystal-structure determination3 shows the complete absence of elemental silver and silver(I) fluoride in the pure material and reveals the presence of successive layers of silver, silver, and fluorine in the lattice. The silver-silver distance is 2.86 A. (nearly twice the metallic radius of 1.53 A.), and the silver-fluorine distance is 2.46 A. [as in ionic silver(I) fluoride]. The compound is regarded as being intermediate in structure between a metal and a salt.4... [Pg.20]

Aryne formation by elimination of lithium fluoride limits the stability of 113 a polymer is formed, but attempts to trap the aryne (114) were unsuccessful.352 Decarboxylation of metal salts of tetrafluoroisonicotinic add occurs,357 giving the corresponding metal derivative, but pyrolysis of the disilver salt (115) appears to produce the aryne (114), since small amounts of diazabiphenylenes may be isolated from the reaction product.358 359... [Pg.66]

Formation and Reaction of the Trimethylsilyl Ester of Squaric Acid. The most common method employed in the synthesis of squarate esters uses expensive silver nitrate and goes through the explosive disilver salt of squaric acid. It was conceived that sUyl esters of squaric acid 38 may be considered as silyl enol ethers that can undergo Si-O cleavage in the presence of a suitable fluoride source and that O-alkylation may be affected using electrophilic halides. Upon preparation of thebis(trimethyl-silyl) squarate 39 using BSA and reaction in situ with p-methylbenzyl bromide in the presence of a fluoride source, the desired benzyl squarate 40 was obtained in about 50% overall yield (eq 42). ... [Pg.65]
