Discontinuous spectrum

Spectrum of the Glowing Oxide.—Neodymium oxide is one of the very few solids with a discontinuous spectrum. The spectrum which was known long before neodymium was separated from its fellow element praesodymium, was briefly described by Bunsen1 in 1864, who in the same communication mentions the discovery by Bahr2 of the similarly banded spectrum of erbium oxide. Thus far, however, no thorough-going study seems to have been made of this class of spectrum.

When treating acne vulgaris, topical and systemic therapies (if indicated) are initiated 2 to 4 weeks prior to peeling. Topical antibiotics and benzoyl peroxide based products can be used daily and discontinued 1 or 2 days prior to peeling. However, unless a deeper peel is desired, retinoids should be discontinued 7-10 days prior to salicylic acid peeling. Broad-spectrum sunscreens (UVA and UVB) should be worn daily (see Photo damage. Sunscreen section). 

Figure 9 [171] shows the Au 4f emission of the nanoparticles at different steps of the sputtering. The as-cleaned spectrum (curve (a)) is equivalent to the published data of bulk gold. Early treatments of powder patterns attempted to deal with the spatial distribution of resonant fields by analytical mathematics.9 This approach led to some valuable insights but the algebra is much too complex when non-axial hyperfine matrices are involved. Consider the simplest case a single resonance line without hyperfine structure. The resonant field is given by eqn (4.3). Features in the first derivative spectrum correspond to discontinuities or turning points in the absorption spectrum that arise when dB/dB or dB/dcp are zero ... 

Figure 3 is the ultraviolet absorption spectrum of hydralazine hydrochloride in water solution, run on a Cary Model 14 spectrophotometer. The solution contained 9-9 mg of hydralazine hydrochloride per liter, and was run against water (1 cm cells).
