In addition to this, the use of a direct gate means that a number of other points also have to be observed, without which perfect moulding production is not possible either. In particular, attention has to be paid to using a mixing head that works absolutely free of prefeed and overrun and conveys the mix into the mould cavity completely free of turbulence. And yet it is above all these problems of prefeed and overrun which have still not been very satisfactorily solved today, continually resulting in moulding defects under production conditions.

Direct gate n. A gate that has the same cross section as the runner, i.e., the absence of a distinguishable gate. 

Sprue gating (direct gating) n. In injection molding with single-cavity molds, particularly those with circular symmetry, filling from the center with the sprue connected directly to the gate and mold cavity. 

On the basis of a breakdown that has appeared previously in the specialist literature [2], we have adopted a classification system for HR that relates to the method of plastic delivery - direct gating and gating via a distribution system (indirect gating). A view of the basic applications of HR in which this classification principle is applied is shown in Figures 1.3 and 1.4.
