Dimyristoyl phosphatidic

The nomenclature for associating individual fatty acid groups with particular phosphodig-lyceride derivatives is straightforward. For instance, a phosphatidic acid (PA) derivative which contains two myristic acid chains is commonly called dimyristoyl phosphatidic acid (DMPA). Likewise, a PC derivative containing two palmitate chains is called dipalmitoyl phosphatidyl choline (DPPC). Other phosphodiglyceride derivatives are similarly named.

The first concerns the temperature effect for a monolayer of the phospholipid DMPA (I -dimyristoyl phosphatidic acid) at an air/water interface (see fig. 3.8). As the temperature is lowered the pressure at the onset of the LE-LC transition,, decreases and the corresponding area per molecule, increases. Hence, the...

Isotherms (interface pressure n [mN/m] area per molecule A [A ]) are usually measured by continuously compressing the film, which has been prepared on top of an electrolytic subphase. In this experiment, the interface pressure k A) = 7o - y A) [i.e. the difference of surface tensions without (y ) and with an interface film] is determined by monitoring the surface tension y A). For the phospholipid L-a-dimyristoyl phosphatidic acid (DMPA) a set of data at pH = 6 and various temperatures of the subphase was measured by Albrecht et al.9 and is reproduced in Fig.l.
