1.1- Dimethylol cyclopentane

This compound is obtained by heating a mixture of 1,1 -dimethylol cyclopentane and phenyl isocyanate at a temperature of B5°C to90°Cfor one-half hour. The resultant product is washed with petroleum ether, recrystallized from methanol, dissolved in acetone (impurities are filtered off) and recrystallized from acetone. 

Bis(carbamate)s of dimethylol-1,1-cyclopentane have been prepared via the his (chlorofoimate) using phosgene (for a safe source, see Chapter 7) in toluene and various amines at —5 °C, in the presence of antipyrine, or by reacting the starting diol with phenyl isocyanate [409].
