Recent examples of this synthesis are of two types. The first involves condensation of the activated phenol, 2-amino-4,6-dinitrophenol (346a) with 2-dimethyl-amino-3,3-dimethyl-3//-azirine (346b) (in MeCN, 0°C- 20°C, A, 24 h) to afford a separable mixture of four products, one of which was 2-dimethylamino-3,3-dimethyl-5,7-dinitro-3,4-dihydroquinoxaline (346c) ( 20% yield) and another its hydrolysis product, 3,3-dimethyl-5,7-dinitro-3,4-dihydro-2(l//)-quinoxalinone (346d) ( 8%) the mechanism of such condensations has been discussed. ... 

Amino-1 -p-chlorophenyl-4-dimethylamino-1,2-dihydro-2,2-dimethyl-s-triazine (CXXXVII) was obtained from acetone and 1-p-chlorophenyl-5,5-dimethylbiguanide under acid conditions, and was isomerised by alkali to 6-p-chloroanilino-4-dimethylamino-l,2-dihydro-2,2-dimethyl-s-triazine (CXXXVIII), which also arose directly under basic conditions (95). Piperidine was found useful in promoting an analogous condensation (534). 

Optically pure 2,3-dihydro-6//-l, 4-oxazin-2-ones were prepared in a two-step reaction from A-protected AAs and a-bromoketones (78JOC135). When heated in boiling toluene and HCl 2,2-dimethylamino acid amides were transformed into the corresponding 3,3-dimethyl-l,4-oxazine-2,5-diones (83TL1921 87HCA329). 

Reaction of ethyl 5,6-dihydro-l-oxo-l//-pyrimido[l,2-a]quinoline-2-carboxylate (39, R = OEt) either with phosphoryl chloride in dimethyl-formamid at ambient temperature for 2 h or with AW-dimethylformamide diethylacetal in boiling benzene for 2 h gave ethyl 5-(dimethylamino-methylene)-5,6-dihydro-l-oxo-l//-pyrimido[l,2-a]quinoline-2-carboxylate (150) (79BEP873192). 

The reaction of a-amino ketones (508d) with thiosemicarbazides (761) affords 3-amino-4,5-dihydro-l,2,4-triazines (762) and the dihydrotriazine-3-thiones (763) (57MI21900). 2,2-Dimethyl-3-dimethylamino-2i/-azirine (764) reacts with benzohydrazides (765 R = Ar) via the open-chain intermediates (766) to give 3-aryl-6-dimethyIamino-2,5-dihydro-l,2,4-triazines (767 R = Ar). With ethyl carbazidate (765 R = OEt) the corresponding triazin-3-one (768) is formed (78HCA2419,78C332). 

Figure 5 shows the molecular structures of rfs-2-nitro-7-(dimethylamino-)-9-(2,3,-dihydro-l J-f-naphtho[2,l-b]thiopyran-l -ylidene)-9J-f-thioxanthene ((P)-cis-17) and trans-dimethyl-[l-(2-nitro-thioxanthen-9-ylidene)-2,3-dihydro-lJ-f-ben-zo[f]thiochromen-8-yl]amine ((P)-trans-18). Anti-folded helical structures, in which the top and bottom parts are respectively tilted up and down relative to the plane of the central olefmic bond, are clearly observed. The extent of folding and twisting in these and related overcrowded alkenes can vary considerably. It should be emphasized that only minor deviation from planarity occurs at the central double bond (dihedral angles 5.4° (17) and 6.8° (18)), while normal bond lengths are found (1.353 A (17) and 1.338 A (18)).130,311...
