The related l,l-difluoro-l,2,2,2-tetrachloroethane (FC-112) undergoes a similar reaction to afford adducts which can be cleaved reductively to y,y-di-fluoro- y-enones in moderate yields (Eq. 29) [102]. The apparatus and procedure used to obtain the difluoro derivative are very similar to those described above. A solution of 37.7 g (0.103 mole) of the tetra-chlorobis(dimethylamino) derivative in 200 mL of 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane (dried over CaS04) is brought to reflux temperature and 14.0 g (0.078 mole) of powdered SbFs is added. Reaction is complete after about 6 hours of reflux and the product, P3N3CI2F2 [N(CH3)2]2, is isolated as a colorless liquid from the mixture as described above the yield is 29.5 g (86%). 

Can be prepd by gently heating l,2-difluoro 1,1,2.2 tetrachloroethane with Zn in abs ale to give a mixt of cis trans foims (Ref 1)... 

Halogen (X2) can be removed thermally or by use of metals (Fe, Mg, Zn, Al). E.g., 1,2-dichloroethylene is obtained industrially from 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane by means of iron turnings and steam,140 and l,2-dichloro-l,2-difluoroethylene from l,2-difluoro-l,l,2,2-tetra-chloroethane by means of Zn dust in ethanol.342,343...
