Differential conductance delayed

Differential diagnoses of peripheral neuropathy were entertained. Laboratory tests revealed that serum parameters for electrolytes and proteins were all within the normal range. Urine porphyrinogen and porphobilinogen levels were normal. Tests were negative for serum rheumatoid factor and antinuclear antibodies, the latter used in detection of connective tissue diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus and polyarteritis nodosa that could present with features of peripheral neuropathy. Nerve conduction studies of the radial, ulnar, and median nerves revealed delayed conduction. Biopsies of the ulnar and radial nerves showed loss of nerve fibers and sudanophilic (indicating lipid) deposits in the Schwann cells of the neurons. Similarly, the yellowish plaques of the pharynx showed abundant macrophages filled with sudanophilic material. These deposits were not membrane-bound. [Pg.160]

Other properties. The coefficient of thermal expansion of concrete is about 10 °C . That of ferritic steels is not very different (about 1.2 X 10 as in usual carbon-steel reinforcement) that of austenitic steels is higher (about 1.8 X 10 ) austenitic-ferritic steels are in an intermediate position. The higher thermal expansion of austenitic and duplex stainless steels is not believed to cause any problems in concrete, and no cases of damage due to differential expansion have been reported [6]. Furthermore, the thermal conductivity of austenitic stainless steel is much lower than that of carbon steel and thus the increase in temperature throughout the steel is delayed. [Pg.254]

Differential AVI Differential AVI is present when there is a difference in the AVI following an atrial-sensed event (PV) compared to the AVI following an atrial-paced event (AV). In most cases, there is a modest delay from the time of onset of the P wave to the time that the atrial depolarization is sensed by the atrial lead. This time varies based on intracardiac conduction properties, the site of spontaneous depolarization, and the location of the atrial lead. By programming the AVI after a sensed atrial event shorter than the AVI after a paced atrial event, the time from onset of depolarization (whether spontaneous or owing to an atrial stimulus) to the end of the AVI will be approximately the same. [Pg.89]

Despite the delay and difficulties in derivation of a suitable theoretical treatment for differential thermal analysis, it is clear that such derivations have not only justified certain aspects that had been empirically established—such as the relationship between peak area and amount of reactant and the necessity for dilution of the specimen with reference material— but have also revealed aspects that were not fully appreciated—such as the fact that the proportionality relationship holds strictly only for a ATf curve and the importance of heat conduction along thermocouple wires. Further developments in quantitative application obviously depend on designing experimental conditions compatible with those demanded by theory Wilburn [1972]. [Pg.536]
