Differences among types

The arrangement of ortho- and paracortical cells differs among wool types. For example, in lincoln wool an annular (orthocortical core surrounded by paracortex) cellular arrangement is present. Merino fibers possess a characteristic crimp and in these fibers the orthocortex is located on the outer side of the crimp curvature. [Pg.341]

A well-known example of blocking arises in the comparison of wear for different types of automobile tires. Tire wear may vary from one automobile to the next, irrespective of the tire type, because of differences among automobiles, variabiUty among drivers, and so forth. Assume, for example, that for the comparison of four tire types (A, B, C, and D), four automobiles (1, 2, 3, and 4) are available. A poor procedure would be to use the same type of tire on each of the four wheels of an automobile and vary the tire type among automobiles, as in the following tabulation ... [Pg.520]

As in any new field, new structures demand novel names. As the variety of structures has increased, the names have kept pace. Although some may be dismayed by this, the different names connote not only different structural types or functional groups, but conceptual differences among the various classes as well. In order to introduce the novitiate and perljaps remind the journeyman, we provide a few definitions and explanations herewith. [Pg.2]

The proceeding discussion of polymer composition was based on the assumption that essentially all polymer is formed in the organic phases of the reaction mixture. If a water-soluble monomer, such as some of the functional monomers, is used, the reactions taking place in the aqueous phase can contribute to variation in polymer composition. In fact, in extreme cases, water soluble polymer can be formed in the aqueous phase. This can happen in batch, semi-continuous or continuous reactors. The fate of functional monomers could be considerably different among the different reactor types, but detailed studies on this phenomenon have not been reported. [Pg.8]

C12-0029. Write a paragraph that describes the types of substances that form monolayers, micelles, and vesicles in water. Explain the differences among these structures. [Pg.879]

Chlorophyll catabolism has been intensively studied in some plants, e.g., rape-seed, barley, spinach, tobacco, Cercidiphyllum japonicum, Lolium temulentum, Liq-quidambar styraciflua and Arabidopsis thaliana, which present all NCC catabolites with similar basic structures. " This suggests a uniform breakdown of chlorophyll in which the oxidative opening of pheophorbide a seems to be a key step. Structural differences among the compounds have been related to at least six basic types of peripheral transformations. Some of them seem to operate either in sequence or in parallel, depending on the plant species, which caused the appearances of different... [Pg.439]

Although the sequence identity averaged over the whole length of the molecule is generally low among different P-type ion transport ATPases, the conserved sequences around the phosphate acceptor aspartyl group and in the ATP binding domain are well preserved [30,32,46]. Structure predictions based on the hydropathy plots... [Pg.68]

Include multiple water bodies (clusters of sites) within each monitored geographic area. Within a geographic area, the chosen biological indicators should be sampled in several waterbodies of a given type (i.e., clusters of lakes or streams), because data from several sites will probably be needed to identify the overall trend within the area (Section 4.4). The direction of temporal trends can differ among individual water bodies because of spatio-temporal variation in other factors that influence mercury... [Pg.111]
