Diclofenac contraindications

These drug are contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to an individual drug or any components of the drug. The NSA.ID flurbiprofen is contraindicated in patients with herpes simplex keratitis. Diclofenac and ketorolac are contraindicated in patients who wear soft contact lenses (may cause ocular irritation). [Pg.628]

Celecoxib, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, is a cyclo-oxygenase-2 selective inhibitor that is as effective as diclofenac and naproxen. It should be used for the shortest period required to control symptoms. Use is associated v/ith an increased risk of thrombotic events and the cyclo-oxygenase-2 selective inhibitors are contraindicated in cerebrovascular disease. Mobic is the proprietary preparation of meloxicam. [Pg.29]

Diclofenac is a phenylacetic acid derivative, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. It is available as the potassium and sodium salts. Potassium salts are slightly more soluble than the sodium salts. Diclofenac can be used in breastfeeding mothers since the amount that passes through breast milk is too small to be harmful to the baby. However, diclofenac is contraindicated in pregnancy, especially during the last trimester. [Pg.332]

Alternative products to diclofenac include naproxen and mefenamic acid, both of which are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Co-codamol is a mixture of the opioid analgesic codeine and paracetamol and it does not possess the anti-inflammatory component. It may be used in pain management either where NSAIDs are contraindicated or in patients who are intolerant to the effects of NSAIDs. [Pg.333]

In the patient with contact lenses, it is advised not to use diclofenac preparations for ophthalamic treatment. Diclofenac also is contraindicated for intravenous administration in patients with renal impairment, hypovolemia, dehydration, asthma, or cerebrovascular bleeding. [Pg.277]

NSAIDs are the first-line agents for treating an acute attack of gout, providing there are no contraindications. Indometacin and diclofenac are the agents most frequently used. Alldred and Capstick (2007) state that the most important factor determining therapeutic success is not the NSAID chosen but how soon NSAID therapy is initiated. Treatment should continue until all symptoms have resolved. [Pg.261]

It should be avoided in pregnancy. It should be used with caution in patients with allergic disorders, renal, hepatic and cardiac impairment, the elderly, in lactation and in those with coagulation defects. [Pg.267]

Gastrointestinal Traditional non-selective NSAIDs are relatively contraindicated in patients at high risk of gastrointestinal events. Two treatment strategies in such patients are treatment with a traditional NSAID plus a proton pump inhibitor or treatment with a coxib. These two treatment strategies have been compared in a 6-month, double-blind, randomized, controlled comparison (CONDOR) of celecoxib 200 mg bd and diclofenac slow-release 75 mg bd plus omeprazole 20 mg/day in 4484 patients with rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis who were at increased gastrointestinal risk [30 ]. The primary endpoint was a composite of upper... [Pg.186]

The absolute and relative contraindications for diclofenac, both the topical and gel formulations, are described below ... [Pg.227]
