Dibutyl peroxide

There are much fewer data for the dialkyl peroxides. The gas phase enthalpy of formation difference between the diethyl and dibutyl peroxides of about 40 kJ moH per methylene group is about twice that of the normal methylene increment of ca 21.6 kJmoH. The 219 kJmoH enthalpy of formation difference between the di-fert-butyl and di-fert-amyl peroxide is so large as to be incredible. 

The most common compound used to improve the cetane number of distillate fuel is 2-ethylhexyl nitrate, an isooctyl nitrate. Dibutyl peroxide, certain glycols and other nitroparaffins are also effective at improving the cetane number of diesel fuel, but their acceptance is not as widespread as isooctyl nitrate.

From butyl bromide, an 80 % yield of dibutyl peroxide was obtained.

A poly(L-lactic acid) was fed to a double screw kneader at 200°C. To this, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as a crosslinking agent and dibutyl peroxide as a radical pol5nnerization initiator were added. Pellets were formed from this mixture.
