We might think that the Murchison meteorite would have been studied thoroughly enough in the years since its arrival on Earth. But the results obtained always depend on the performance of the technical resources available in this case, the analytical methods and the apparatus. Thus, it is not really surprising that a new class of amino acid has been discovered in Murchison material diamino acids, such as DL-2,3-diaminopropionic acid, DL-2,4-diaminobutanoic acid etc. These were identified using a new enantioselective GLPC/MS method, which is also being used in analysis of material from the Rosetta mission. 

Libraries of /3-turn mimetics have been prepared by solid-phase syntheses. The synthesis of the chiral saturated pyrazino[l,2- ]pyrazine 243 starts from Merrifield resin-bound a-iV-BOC-/3-./V-Fmoc-L-diaminopropionic acid as the central framework. The variable substituents are introduced during the synthesis (Scheme 43) <20000L2615>. The scope and limitations of the method are described <2002JC0584>.

When treated with either sulfur monochloride or thionyl chloride, AAs and 2,3-diaminopropionic acid afforded neither l,2,5-thiadiazole-3-carboxylic acid or 3-alkyl-4-hydroxy-l,2,5-thiadiazoles in fair to low yields (66JOC1964 67JOC2823).

The scope and limitations of the solid-supported symthesis of bicyclic diketopi-perazines 165 as peptide p-tum mimetic were further investigated by Golebiowski et al. [52]. The four-component Ugi reaction of a-iV-Boc-diaminopropionic acid resin ester 160 (an amine input) and optically active a-bromoacid 163 with various isocyanides 166 and aldehydes 167 yields a series of bicyclic diketopiperazines 165 (Scheme 28). 

Successful amination of chiral a-cyanoesters with 4a has been reported (Scheme 46) ". Appropriate reduction and removal of the chiral auxiliary give a,/3-diaminopropionic acids with good yield and enantiomeric excess. 

Diaminopropionic Acid has not yet been described as a constituent of the proteins, but it was synthesised by Klebs in 1894 by the action of ammonia upon dibromopropionic acid. 

Several 0-aminoacyl sugars were prepared to study a relationship between taste and chemical structure.
