Diabetes mellitus somatostatin

Since depreotide binds to somatostatin receptors, caution should be paid to patients with insulinoma or diabetes mellitus. 

Somatostalinomas arc rare pancreatic islet cell tumours which are usually malignant. The clinical features include mild diabetes mellitus, diarrhoea, malabsoip-tion and gallstones. Diagnosis may be made by finding increa.sed plasma concentrations of somatostatin. Surgery is an option if the tumour is localized, otherwise chemotherapy is the 1 ikely treatment.
