FIGURE 17-13. Drawing showing automatic implantable cardioverter-defibrillators with newer methods of device placement. It shows an endocardial lead system where the leads are placed transvenously without the need for a thoracotomy. The generator is now small enough to be placed in the pectoral region of the chest. The AMADEUS registry is a prospective multicenter European registry to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the CARILLON Mitral Contour System in patients with function mitral regurgitation. Joachim Schofer recently presented 6-month clinical outcomes of 48 patients (34). Among the 30 patients with successful device placement, cardiac perforation was noted in three patients at one month and there were two deaths (6.9%) and three myocardial infarctions reported at six months. The regurgitant volume was reduced from 35 16 mL at baseline to 24 12 at six months (P <0.001) and six-minute walk test increased from a mean of 307 meters to 403 meters (P <0.001). [Pg.130]

The number of dots that can be dispensed per unit of time also depends on viscosity. The use of low-viscosity adhesives increases the number of dots that can be dispensed. However, there is a tradeoff between the speed at which the adhesive can be dispensed and the speed of device placement. Most automated component-placement equipment operate faster than adhesive-dispensing equipment. A comparison of the effect of viscosity on dispensing and placement times is shown in Table 4.19 for an 86-lead plastic-encapsulated leadless chip carrier (PLCC). ... [Pg.184]

Pneumothorax may occur as a complication of the subclavian puncture technique, and when this technique is used, the radiograph obtained after device placement should be inspected specifically for this comphcation (Fig. 18.34). A potentially more important complication is hemothorax, with or without an associated pneumothorax. [Pg.643]

Analysis of the amplification and active controlled devices placement on efficiency of a control system was performed. A twenty-story fi-amed structure with active control systems including different dampers configurations was simulated. The response of the structure to an artificial white noise ground motion was simulated in order to find the optimal locations of control devices. Behavior of the structure was further investigated under natural earthquake excitations. [Pg.246]

Caution Tag Placement Caution tags shall be placed such that they do not interfere with or obscure indications, switches, or other control devices, but are readily apparent to an individual prior to the operation of the tagged device. Placement of caution tags shall be... [Pg.456]
