3 Develop Company Goals and Get Everyone on Board with the Plan 

Goals are the what and business plans are the how. The input from subordinates should be much more substantive in developing plans than goals. Good management delegates authority to execute plans to the lowest appropriate level, and it is appropriate that the people who will do this are the ones who have the most input about how it will be accomplished. 

Remember that most people respond to what they perceive to be their own self-interest. There is nothing immoral or shameful in this it is simply a normal fact of life. If people do not look after their own interests, it is unlikely that anyone else will. You must show each of them that working as a member of a team toward common goals is indeed in their best self-interest.
