Deutsche Rechenzentrum

The realization of a central German Computer Center (Deutsches Rechenzentrum DRZ) had been suggested by the Kommission fiir Rechenan-lagen of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DEG) in 1956. It finally came into existence on October 3, 1961. It was accessible to all universities and research institutions in Germany for such jobs that could not be handled on the computer (if there was any at all) of the local institution. The first machine at the DRZ was an IBM 704, which was replaced in June 1963 by an IBM 7090, which was about five times faster than the IBM 704. The front-end was an IBM 1401, financed by the Volkswagen Foundation and the DEG. In 1965, the DEG financed another disk and the total investment amounted to about 18 million DM. The chairman of the scientific board was Professor Walther from Darmstadt, who, as already mentioned, had been involved earlier in computer developments. [Pg.268]

The authors express sincere thanks to the Deutsche Forschungsge-meinschaft for support. The computations were carried out at the Deutsches Rechenzentrum, Darmstadt. We thank G. Pieper, Frankfurt, for additional intensity measurements and B. Klar for programming the absorption correction. [Pg.264]

Thanks are due to the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, who supported the project. We also thank the Institut fuer Neutronenphysik I (T. Springer, director) of the Kemforschungsanlage, Juelich, for providing computer time. Some preliminary computations were done at the Deutsches Rechenzentrum, Darmstadt. [Pg.270]

Acknowledgments We are grateful to the Deutsche Forschimgsgemeinschaft and the Fonds der Chemischen Industrie fw financial support we thank the Rechenzentrum of the Technische Universitat Braunschweig and the John von Neumann-Institut for Computing (NIC) at the Forschungszentrum Julich. [Pg.215]

We like to express our gratitude to Prof. S. P. Fischer and Prof. R. Rigler for continuous support and valuable discussions. The computer simulations are made on the Cray 1 XMP of the Leibnitz Rechenzentrum in Munich. Financial support by the Deutsche Porschungsgemeinschaft under project SFB 143 C3 is acknowledged. [Pg.449]
