Determination of Monomers and Oligomers in Extractants

Details of the US migration test procedures have been published [7-12]. A typical example of the application of a migration test procedure has been described by Lin and co-workers [13]. Migration studies were performed by determining acrylate monomers and oligomers in extractants from electron beam curable acrylate coatings. Many analytical techniques are in use for the qualitative and quantitative evaluation of monomers and oligomers extracted from PA6 (GC, differential refrac-tometry, IR, PC, SEC, HPLC, RPLC, etc.). FTIR has been used for quantitative analysis of caprolactam oligomer content (extract %) in polyamide-6 [113], The method, which involves a 3h extraction in boiling methanol, is suitable for process control and plant environment. Kolnaar [114] has used FTIR characterisation of fractional extracts with pentane, hexane, and heptane of HDPE for blow moulding applications. Vinyl acetate in packaging film has similarly been determined by quantitative FUR.

To determine whether all the regions of the thylakoids were affected by the catalyst, lipids were extracted from individual protein complexes cut from preparative gels, and PC was recovered from each extract by TLC. In each of the compexes analysed, namely, LHCP oligomer, monomer, and photosystem I (CPIa), t-16 l, as a percentage of total PC fatty acids, was reduced by more than 1B%.
