Desktop monitors

The market share of LCDs varies with the application area and size. Since the introduction of LCDs in small devices like wristwatches, new applications like mobile telephones and laptops have emerged. Recently the monitor market and even the television market have become very attractive areas to apply LCDs. Figure 9.4 gives an overview of the flat panel revenues by application from quarter 1 in 2001 to quarter 1 in 2004. The highest revenues are obtained in LCDs for desktop monitors and notebooks. However, the market of mobile displays is by far the largest regarding the number of sold displays. [Pg.133]

The display technologies traditionally employed in these applications are LCDs, vacuum fluorescence displays, and inorganic LEDs. Industrial soiu-ces estimate that hy 2004-2005, organic LEDs (including PLEDs as well as LEDs based on small organic molecules) may capture between US 350 to US 700 million of that market (3,35). In the long run, PLEDs also have the potential to replace current high resolution video-rate displays in, eg, desktop monitors, ultrathin television sets, and the like. [Pg.4232]

Computer monitoring and control systems have recently been introduced. These are designed to operate in place of conventional instrumentation. Using intelligent interface outstations connected to a desktop computer, many plant functions may be programed into the computer and controlled centrally. [Pg.366]

Cathode ray tubes (CRTs) are almost universally used in colour televisions and still dominate in the display monitors of desktop computers. They are obviously not suitable for laptop PCs, because of bulk and weight, where currently liquid crystal displays are the systems of choice. In principle one could monitor a GC effluent with a nondestructive detector like a TCD, pass it on through a suitable interface, and acquire and print out the mass spectra of peaks as they are eluting.
