The extraordinary versatility of the perovskite structure has led to the creation of an essential family of materials with different functional properties that can be used for a wide variety of present-day technologies, and is likely to remain an integral part of future developments. Clearly, the perovskites represent important commercial materials, with their remarkable structures providing a wealth of new compounds with various and, often, unique properties.
