Descendant

The CP table. Identification of the essential matches in the region of the pinch is clarified by use of a CP table. In a CP table, the CP values of the hot and cold streams at the pinch are listed in descending order. 

In any group of the periodic table we have already noted that the number of electrons in the outermost shell is the same for each element and the ionisation energy falls as the group is descended. This immediately predicts two likely properties of the elements in a group (a) their general similarity and (b) the trend towards metallic behaviour as the group is descended. We shall see that these predicted properties are borne out when we study the individual groups. 

What changes occur as we descend the groups of the table ... 

Ionisation energy falls as the group is descended, i.e. as the size of the atom increases and hence the distance between the nucleus and the outer electron increases. 

As any group is descended the size of the atom and number of electrons shielding the outer electrons from the nucleus increases and the ionisation energy falls (see Table 6.2.)... 

The ascension tube D ca. i cm. in diameter ) rises for about 8 cm. above A, then narrows (5 mm. in diameter) to form a small condenser E (8 cm. long). Should there be a choice for the fundamental straight chain of a radical, that chain is selected which contains (1) the maximum number of double and triple bonds, (2) the largest number of carbon atoms, and (3) the largest number of double bonds. These are in descending priority.

Major Chlorine Markets. Forecasted changes in chlorine consumption (Table 23) are addressed below in descending order of the importance of the major derivative, based on 1987 demand. 

Extraterrestrial dust particles can be proven to be nonterrestrial by a variety of methods, depending on the particle si2e. Unmelted particles have high helium. He, contents resulting from solar wind implantation. In 10-)J.m particles the concentration approaches l/(cm g) at STP and the He He ratio is close to the solar value. Unmelted particles also often contain preserved tracks of solar cosmic rays that are seen in the electron microscope as randomly oriented linear dislocations in crystals. Eor larger particles other cosmic ray irradiation products such as Mn, Al, and Be can be detected. Most IDPs can be confidently distinguished from terrestrial materials by composition. Typical particles have elemental compositions that match solar abundances for most elements. TypicaUy these have chondritic compositions, and in descending order of abundance are composed of O, Mg, Si, Ee, C, S, Al, Ca, Ni, Na, Cr, Mn, and Ti. 

The second ceUulosic fiber process to be commercialized was invented by L. H. Despeissis (4) in 1890 and involved the direct dissolution of cotton fiber in ammoniacal copper oxide Uquor. This solvent had been developed by M. E. Schweizer in 1857 (5). The cuprammonium solution of ceUulose was spun into water, with dilute sulfuric acid being used to neutralize the ammonia and precipitate the ceUulose fibers. H. Pauly and co-workers (6) improved on the Despeissis patent, and a German company, Vereinigte Glanstoff Eabriken, was formed to exploit the technology. In 1901, Dr. Thiele at J. P. Bemberg developed an improved stretch-spinning system, the descendants of which survive today. 

The halogen fluorides are best prepared by the reaction of fluorine with the corresponding halogen. These compounds are powerful oxidising agents chlorine trifluoride approaches the reactivity of fluorine. In descending order of reactivity the halogen fluorides are chlorine pentafluoride [13637-63-3] 1 5 chlorine trifluoride [7790-91-2] 3 bromine pentafluoride [7789-30-2], BrF iodine heptafluoride [16921 -96-3], chlorine... 

In one extractor (FMC Inc.), the fmit is located between two cups having sharp-edged metal tubes at their base. The upper cup descends and the many fingers on each cup mesh to express the juice as the tubes cut holes in the top and bottom of the fmit. On further compression, the rag, seeds, and juice sacs are compressed into the bottom tube between the two plugs of peel. A piston moves up inside the bottom tube forcing the juice through perforations in the tube wall. A simultaneous water spray washes the peel oil expressed during extraction away from the peel as an oil—water emulsion the peel oil is recovered separately from the emulsion.
