This theory was developed by another Russian, Deryagin, particularly for pressure-sensitive tape. The adhesive and the adherend are likened to the two plates of a capacitor, and the work of separation is equated to that required to separate the two charged capacitor plates. Again the theoretical basis developed correlates with experiment. 

Deryagin [151] developed a theory for determining the force of interaction between particles separated by a film of liquid in equilibrium with its vapor. The resultant equations allow for the effect on adhesion of not only capillary forces, but also the adsorption of vapor on the particle surface.
