Weapons definition

Much of the initial development of Gaussian modeling and definition of dispersion paramenters was done during and after World War I in addressing the problem of poison gas dispersal. These studies involved the definition of risk factors, such as exposure and dose. The next intensive development effort came during and after World War II with the nuclear weapons program. 

The agents in this class are bicyclophosphates and bicyclothiophosphates. This class of agents is not specifically listed in the Chemical Weapons Convention nor is it covered by the language of the general definitions in the Schedules. Some of these chemicals have been used as fire retardants, oil lubricants, and for medicinal research. They also occur as breakdown products in some synthetic turbine engine lubricants and some rigid polyurethane foams. 

Under federal law, silencers are treated in the same category as automatic weapons. Armor-piercing ammunition (popularly called cop-killer bullets) were banned in 1986, with an expanded definition of banned bullets in the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 that includes bullets made of tungsten, beryllium, depleted uranium, and other exotic materials. Other accessories can also cause a weapon to be banned (see Assault Weapons above).

Howitzer (How). See Ref 44, p B27-L, under CANNON and Ref 40a, p 89. In Ref 45f, pp 2-1 2-3 it is defined as a complete weapon conforming to the general cannon definition including the attached or closely related units necesssry for operation as intended (recoil mechanism, mount, sighting system, accessories, etc, but not ammunition), and designed for performance characterized by velocity, range, and trajectory curvature intermediate between those of a gun and a mortar...

For artillery weapons, the caliber is expressed in the US GtBrit in inches(and sometimes in millimeters), while in other countries in millimeters or centimeters. The word Caliber(or the abbr Cal) precedes the number, such as Cal 3-inch Field Gun. When the word "calibers follows the number, such as in the definition "Gun,16—inch, 50 calibers , it means the length of the barrel is equal to 50 times the caliber(in this case 16 ) which gives 50 x 16= 800 inches... 

Accdg to Amer definition, cannon is a piece of ordnance, fixed or mobile,intended to fire projectiles of greater caliber than 0.60 inchi.Refs 11 16). Its Brit definition is "a weapon of greater caliber than 1 inch (Ref 14, v 4,p 751)...
