Deep vein thrombosis concentrate

Lenalidomide was approved recently for the indication of myelodysplastic syndrome where the 5q deletion is present. Since lenalidomide is an analog of thalidomide, all the same precautions must be taken to prevent phocomelia. The time to maximum lenalidomide concentrations occurs 0.5 to 4 hours after the dose. The terminal half-life ranges from 3 to 9 hours. Approximately 65% of lenalidomide is eliminated unchanged in the urine, with clearance exceeding the glomerular filtration rate. To date, no pharmacokinetic studies have been done in patients with renal dysfunction. Lenalidomide is used in the treatment of myelodysplastic syndrome and multiple myeloma. Other side effects are neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolus. [Pg.1293]

In a randomized study of 180 patients with anemia due to hormone-refractory prostate cancer, who were treated with epoetin beta 1000 lU or 5000 lU subcutaneously 3 times a week for 12 weeks, cardiovascular events were more frequent with the higher dosage. Four patients had deep vein thrombosis and two had myocardial infarctions all were taking the higher dosage. However, only one of the patients with deep vein thrombosis had a high hemoglobin concentration (21). [Pg.1244]

A 28-year-old woman took thalidomide 100 mg/day for Behget s disease and after 3 months developed amenorrhea (89). She took an oral contraceptive for 8 months, but then had a deep vein thrombosis in association with a factor V Leiden mutation the oral contraceptive was withdrawn and she was given warfarin. She remained amenorrheic. She had a raised serum concentration of follicle-stimulating hormone but all other laboratory tests were normal. Ultrasonography showed a normal uterus and an endometrial lining of 4 mm. The amenorrhea was attributed to thahdomide, which she decided to continue taking she remained amenorrheic. [Pg.3349]
