A second populous class of T/2-vinyl complexes has resulted from addition of phosphines, phosphites, isonitriles, and thiolates to neutral d4 alkyne complexes. In particular, recent extensive work by the Davidson group with CpM(CF3C=CCF3)2X (97,176) and other hexafluorobutyne reagents has clarified much of this chemistry. We turn to this realm of Tj2-vinyl chemistry after first considering the one class of dithiocarbamate alkyne complexes known to form tj2-vinyl ligands. [Pg.78]

At more advanced levels, a further set of symbols such as C2, Tj, Oh etc are used to described the symmetry properties of molecules, drawing upon ideas from group theory (Davidson, 1971). [Pg.80]

Tri-O-acetyl-a-D-xylopyranosyl bromide106 (138) and N-tosyl-L-serine methyl ester107 (139) were condensed in the presence of Drierite and silver oxide, and then the O-acetyl and methyl ester groups were removed by treatment with sodium hydroxide, and the N-tosyl group by means of sodium in liquid ammonia, to give 140. Synthesis of this compound has also been described by other workers108-110 and the a-D an-omer by Brendel and Davidson.108... [Pg.163]

The remaining four chapters of the present volume involve topics new to the series. Two of them deal with specific groups of compounds (C. J. Moody on Azodicarbonyl Compounds and T. Sasaki on Heteroada-mantanes ) and two others deal with the Use of Transition Organome-tallic Compounds in Heterocyclic Synthesis (J. L. Davidson and P. N. Preston) and Sulfur Transfer Reagents (M. Davis). [Pg.418]

Later in 1965, Chart and Davidson [2] reported the first example of cyclometal-lation of an sp C—H bond in [Ru(dmpe)2] (3) dmpe = dimethyl phosphinoethane. These authors found not only that this complex spontaneously cyclometaUates at the phosphorus methyl groups to produce complex [Ru(H)(CH2P(Me)CH2CH2PM 62)(dmpe)] (4 see Scheme 13.4) (a later examination by Cotton and coworkers [9] of this compound provided crystallographic evidence that the cyclometalated form of [Ru(dmpe)2] is in fact a dimer (5) of the type shown in Scheme 13.3), but also that the system reacts with free naphthalene via the oxidative addition of a C—H bond to the zero-valent rathenium center to produce complex [cis-Ru(H)(2-naphthyl)(dmpe)2] (6). This species was in equilibrium with the r-coordinated naphthalene ruthenium complex [Ru(naphthalene)(dmpe)2] (7) (Scheme 13.4). [Pg.326]
