Data exploring technologies

Another type of technology that has influenced oil and gas exploration is the acquisition of 3-U surface seismic data. This technology produces so much information that modern interpreters have been forced to give up looking at paper sections and use computers just to view their data. The 3-U seismic surveys are very much like a solid section of the earth. An interpreter can sit at a workstation and literally slice through the data viewing the seismic picture of the earth in almost cvci y way possible. Some companies have assembled virtual reality rooms where the... [Pg.922]

It transpires that getting more science into exploration will require a bit more than a few enthusiastic researchers working with some equally enthusiastic explorers. Technology and concept transfer across the academe - industry interface is a complex, two-way process that is at least as challenging as the science itself. One of the more novel approaches to bridging the divide has been the embedding of researchers within companies to promote the real-time transfer of concepts, data and promote the uptake of R and D in exploration. The health of the interface is... [Pg.433]

The chemometric basic tools may be divided into the following typologies of study data exploration, modelling, prediction and validation, design of experiments (DOE), process analytical technology (PAT), quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR). Details and relevant literature are reported in the following paragraphs. [Pg.62]

The recent introduction of inexpensive desktop computers has allowed their extensive use throughout many companies. The standard spreadsheet packages which accompany these machines enables the above data to be laid out in an interactive way, so that what if situations can be explored at the planning stage and the implications of, for example, market trends in the food industry, to be examined over the long term for its effect on the plant layout. The model may include a factor to take into account improvements in technology and working practices in both the office and factory. [Pg.72]

For such major system acquisitions, a more thorough analysis of the system s economics will probably be required. In such a case it is best if those responsible for exploring and/or securing the benefits of LIMS technology, understand the financial decision making process that goes on in the firm and can assess for themselves the value of anticipated benefits and the investment which such benefits would justify. Not only will this insure a judicious system acquisition, but it will develop, in advance, the specific data that the financial decision makers require and which proves the value of the system not just to the labs, but to corporate organization as a whole. [Pg.14]

This paper explores the trade-offs of gem damage during LIBS analysis and data quality under a variety of analytical conditions. Two lasers, a Big Sky Laser Technology (now Quantel USA) Nd-YAG nano-second laser operated at its fundamental wavelength of 1064 nm, and a Raydiance, Inc., pico-second laser operated at its fundamental wavelength of 1552 nm as well as harmonics at 776, 517.2, and 388 nm, are used in separate LIBS systems. Furthermore, the use of inert gas environment (He or Ar) is explored to increase peak intensities at lower laser power and sample damage. [Pg.293]
