CONSOLIDATION—repeat the cytarabine for 5 days and the daunorubicin for 2 days (and optional 5 days of etoposide)...

Idarubicin is a semisynthetic anthracycline glycoside analog of daunorubicin and is approved for use in combination with cytarabine for induction therapy of acute myeloid leukemia. When combined with cytarabine, idarubicin appears to be more active than daunorubicin in producing complete remissions and in improving survival in patients with acute myelogenous leukemia.

A patient with chronic myeloid leukaemia who had responded poorly to treatment with etoposide, mitoxantrone and cytarabine for blast crisis, returned to the chronic phase when given etoposide with ciclosporin. An in vitro study by the same authors showed that etoposide was partially toxic to blast cells but that its effect on blast cells was increased sixfold when it was given with ciclosporin. ...
